Tufit z pokładu węgla brunatnego odkrywki Pątnów koło Konina
Abstract
Wynikiem korelacji jest ustalenie wieku sedymentacji środkowopolskiego pokładu węgla brunatnego na środkowy torton.TUFFITE FROM BROWN COAL LAYER IN THE PĄTNÓW OPEN-CUT MINE NEAR KONINA mineral intercalation was found in top part of the Mid-Polish brown coal layer (Upper Miocene), exposed in the Pątnów open-cut mine near Konin. Detailed studies on mineral composition of the intercalation showed a large admixture of pyroclastic material, implicating its tuffite character. The intercalation is 0.15 to 0.40 m thick (Fig. 1).The tuffite intercalation was found to be tripartite. Its lower part.(Fig. 2) is built of clay material which forms groundmass of the matrix type, as well as pyroclastic and detrital quartz, volcanic glass (pumice), feldspars (high-temperature sanidine), coal matter and other components (Table 1). Clay components of the groundmass include iIlite, Ca-montmorillonite, iIIite-montmorillonite intergrowths(I/M) and koalinite (Figs. 3, 4).Middle part of the tuffite represents a concentration of xylith detritus. The detritus is cemented with clays which resemble in mineralogy those from upper part of the tuffite. The upper part is characterized by groundmass of the iIIite type (polytype variety 1Md), small admixture of weathered volcanic glass, feldspars, pyrite; iron oxides and coal matter (Table I).The extent of the tuffite intercalation is fairly wide in the Konin area. The intercalation represents good reference level for correlation of Upper Miocene brown coal deposits in the Wielkopolska and·Kujawy regions. The studies showed the presence of pyroclastic material in the fraction below 10 μm. This suggests fairly distant source of the maten.al, presumably situated in the Carpathians. When this is the case, the tuffite from the Konin area would represent an equivalent of intercalations of pyroclastic rocks and bentonites from the Middle Badenian sections in the Carpathian Fore-deep and forefield of the Góry Świętokrzyskie Mts. This would implicate Middle Tortonian age of the brown coal layer occurring in the Mid-Polish Beds.Downloads
