Abstract
MINERALOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND THERMAL PROPERTIES OF MOTTLED CLAY SHALE FROM MIĘDZYBRODZIE NEAR SANOKSummaryThe shale from Międzybrodzie represents the illite-chlorite variety of Carpathian clay shales. Its typical components include: trioctahedral chloride, dioctahedral micas 2M1 and IMd (illite) and mixed-layered illite/montmorillonite mineral of the weathering origin. The shale also consists of kaolinite, haematite, plagioclases, calcite and siderite. Detailed characteristics of the I/M mineral is given. The shale displays pyrogenic swelling at temperatures over1150°C which is connected with formation of liquid phase in large amounts and accompanying emanation of gaseous components (e.g. due to reduction of haematite to magnetite).Downloads
