Działalność naukowa i organizacyjna Jana Czarnockiego (24.V.1889-16.XII.1951)

Abstract

Działalność Jana Czarnockiego zajmuje jedno z czołowych miejsc w dziejach rozwoju polskiej geologii. Absolwent Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego i Lwowskiego już w młodości podejmował badania utworów paleozoicznych Gór Świętokrzyskich (1909 r.) i po kilkunastu latach był jednym z najlepszych ich znawców. Stopniowo swe zainteresowania naukowe J. Czarnocki kierował na sąsiednie regiony i młodsze systemy geologiczne.Ogólny dorobek naukowy J. Czarnockiego składa się z 120 pozycji bibliograficznych i obejmuje wszystkie niemal dziedziny naukowe z zakresu geologii stratygraficznej, tektoniki, geologii stosowanej, a także ochrony przyrody i muzealnictwa.Wielkim zainteresowaniem naukowym towarzyszyła troska o zbiory geologiczne i w związku z tym w okresie 1931–1937 powierzono Mu sprawowanie funkcji Kustosza Muzeum w Państwowym Instytucie Geologicznym. W latach 1938–1939 był wicedyrektorem, a od 1947 do 1951 r. dyrektorem Instytutu. Na tych stanowiskach położył duże zasługi w organizacji badań i ich planowaniu w ramach całej polskiej służby geologicznej. SCIENTIFIC AND ORGANIZATIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS OF JAN CZARNICKI (24.V.1889 – 16.XII.1951) Jan Czarnocki's scientific and organizational achievments give him an out standing position in the history of development of the Polish geology. As a graduate of Warsaw and Lvov Universities he undertook the studies of Paleozoic formations of the Góry Świętokrzyskie early in his geological career (1909), and after a dozen years became one of their best experts. Gradually, he turned his research interest on the neighbouring areas and to younger geological systems.The total scientific record of Jan Czarnocki comprises 120 bibliographic items covering a wide range of research fields including stratigraphical geology, tectonics, applied geology, natural environment protection and management of museum collections.His genuine scientific interests were accompanied by a profound care of geological collections. In connection with this in the years 1931–1937 he was offered the position of curator at the Museum of the State Geological Institute. In the years 1938–1939 he was appointed vice-director, and in the years 1947–1951 – director of the Institute. During his work at the Institute he made a great contribution to the planning and organization of the research within the framework of the Polish Geological Survey.
