W sprawie klasyfikacji, nomenklatury i terminologii stratygrafii czwartorzędu

Abstract

Podano przegląd literatury światowej dotyczący porządkowania klasyfikacji stratygraficznej czwartorzędu w różnych krajach. Na tym tle przedstawiono zadania, powołanego w Komitecie Badań Czwartorzędu Polskiej Akademii Nauk, zespołu do spraw klasyfikacji. nomenklatury i terminologii stratygrafii czwartorzędu w Polsce. Zespół pracował od 1980 do 1985 r. a w wyniku tej działalności powstały Zasady polskiej klasyfikacji, terminologii i nomenklatury stratygraficznej dla czwartorzędu.ON STRATIGRAPHIC CLASSIFICATION, NOMENCLATURE, AND TERMINOLOGY OF THE QUATERNARY The stratigraphic rank and subdivision of the Quaternary belong to the most widely discussed questions in stratigraphy. The questions are still regarded as highly important in works carried out in several countries, especially by geological surveys, in connection with publication of International stratigraphic guide (edited by H. D. Hedberg) in 1976. The classification and nomenclature applied in the stratigraphic subdivision of the Quaternary of Poland markedly vary from the requirements as put in the above guide. Therefore, in 1980 the Committee on Quaternary Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences called into the existence a special working group for compilation of Zasady polskiej klasyfikacji, terminologii i nomenklatury stratygraficznej dla czwartorzędu. The works on that task included a review of studies on similar questions carried out in other countries. The paper presents brief characteristics of the developments in these studies in several European countries and the U.S.A., especially those dealing with chronostratigraphic and, to some degree, lithostratigraphic subdivision.
