Abstract
VARIABILITY IN FORM AND MICROSTRUCTURE OF STROMATOLITES IN DEPENDENCE ON ENVIRONMENT AT THE EXAMPLE OF MAIN DOLOMITE DEPOSITS IN NW POLAND In NW Poland, Main Dolomite (Ca2) deposits appear hihly varying in lithofacies (Fig. 1). Onkolites and stromatolites predominate in Main Dolomite deposits developed in dolomite facies (Fig. 2). In deep parts of the reservoir, stromatolites appeared towards the end of sedimentation of the Main Dolomite Series (Wysoka Kamieńska – see Fig. 2) indicating decrease in water depth. The studied stromatolites, originating in littoral and sublittoral environments, are markedly varying stromatolites differing in form and environment of origin. The microstructures are closely related to long-term oscillations in water level in the Zechstein reservoir. The knowledge of occurrences of stromatolites and their microstructure markedly contributes to paleofacies analysis of the relevant deposits.Downloads
