Allostratygrafia, cykliczność sedymentacji, litostratygrafia
Abstract
OF SEDIMENTATION, LITHOSTRATIGRAPHY Formal introduction of allostratigraphic units into the North American Stratigraphic Code (mainly for Quaternary deposits) poses the following Questions concerning their application to older deposits and their relation both to lithostratigraphic units and to the cyclicity of sedimentation: 1. Majority of sedimentary cyclothems may be regarded as one of possible kind of allostratigraphic units if they are bounded by discontinuities. 2. Some national stratigraphic codes allow the cyclothems to be distinguished as lithostratigraphic formations, and some others do not. 3. Lithostratigraphic units of higher rank than formations, being the assemblages of formations, may have a cyclic arrangement. They also may be discontinuity-bounded, thus not differing from the aIlostratigraphic units of the same rank. 4. Sub-division on the basis of cyclothems is sometimes simpler and easier to carry out than on the basis of litho-somes, particularly in the highly variable clastic sequences.5. Parallel usage of the lithostratigraphic and allostratigraphic subdivisions in the same sequence (for example the Rotliegendes in Poland) seems to be unnecessary. In such cases the more convenient subdivision should be selected.Downloads
