Osady formacji żarnowieckiej jako przejście od wendu do kambru na Pomorzu i akwenie Bałtyku
Abstract
Formacja żarnowiecka jest produktem rozmywania i niszczenia zwietrzelin krystaliniku przedpola tarczy skandynawskiej i wyniesień wzdłuż obrzeza starej platformy. W zachodniej części syneklizy bałtyckiej w pobliżu wybrzeża odwiercono 7 otworów, a w głębi lądolodu 1 otwór (Kościerzyna IG 1). Nowe otwory wiertnicze na akwenie Bałtyku wniosły sporo danych, wzbogacając tym wyniki badań formacji żarnowieckiej. Stąd możliwość przedstawienia mapy występowania i miąższości osadów tej formacji. SEDIMENTS OF THE ŻARNOWIEC FORMATION AS THE TRANSITION FROM THEVENDIAN TO THE CAMBRIAN IN POMERANIA AND THE BALTIC BASIN The Żarnowiec Formation is composed of sandstones that are usually lightgray in the top, with parallel or oblique bedding and gradually pass into typical Cambrian sediments with a nontrilobite fauna. In the bottom the sediments are darker, varied, red-brown and spotty. Sandstones with mineral composition of quartz and arkosic wackes are coarse and medium-grained with interbeds of gray-green siltstones.Sandy sediment, conglomerate in the bottom of the series, is a product of inland deposition. It is composed of pieces of weathered crystalline rocks deposited after a short transport by waters of periodical streams, flowing towards a sea. Upwards, the sea influence is marked by appearing inserts of light quartz sandstone what is due to migration of a coastline.Thickness distribution (always less than 150 m: Fig. 1) indicates that sediments are thinner in the northeast and thicker in the west and southwest.Downloads
