Abstract

NOTES ON SOME ROCK IN THE CARPATHIAN FLYSCH, AND ON THEIR SIGNIFICANCE FOR THE INDUSTRY OF FIRE CLAY MATERIALSPreliminary field investigations and laboratory studies were intended to elucidate whether there exist, on the area of the Flysch Carpathians, rocks suitable for utilization by the industry of fire clay materials for the manufacture of siliceous products (Dinas).The authors have paid special attention to rocks. with secondary silicification, and to siliceous rocks of organic origin.As ex ample for rocks disclosing processes of silicification may serve, in the first place, the sandstones from the Lgota (Aptian-Albian) beds. These strata show facial differences, depending upon their geographical location. Therefore, in their investigations, the authors have paid attention to three Iegions, situated (going from west towards east): a) in the Silesian Beskid and in Beskid Mały; b) in the region of Węglówka near Krosno; c) in the region of Baligród, south of Lesko.
