Stratygrafia miocenu dorzecza górnej Odry i górnej Wisły oraz jej związek z obszarem wschodnim
Abstract
STRATIGRAPHY OF THE MIOCENE IN THE UPPER ODER AND UPPER VISTULA BASINS, AND ITS CORELATION WITH THE EASTERN AREA OF POLANDThe silesian-cracovian Miocene which from the west is connected with Moravia by means of a narrow belt, and from the east by a simi1ar narrowed passage with the area of. Święty Krzyż and Małopolska, has been developed in various facies, with a preponderance of a shallow sea facies. In the west (in Silesia) and south (on the Sub-Carpathian area) there predominate marine clays, while in the north -marine sands and limestones. There also are found brackish clays with lignite, and fresh-water limestones. In the present paper the author has adopted the well known stratigraphical division proposed by W. Friedberg (1931), but to some extent altered by J. Nowak (1938, 1947). The main issue is here the determination of the boundary between the Lower Tortonian and the Middle or Upper Tortonian; this boundary these authors assign to the gypsum or lithotamnian horizon. The attached table of stratigraphical division takes into account sub-stages and horizons. A more detailed division into horizons, based on facies and fauna, was possible solely within the range of shallow littoral deposits. In Silesia, this type of deposits comprises but a small percentage compared with sediments of the more open sea, where in the monotonous facies of clays the fauna is monotonous too and little variable; due to this, its subdivision is more difficult.Downloads
