Abstract
NOVEL DATA ON STRATIGRAPHY OF ALBIAN, CENOMANIAN AND LOWER TURONIAN SEDIMENTS IN REGION OF BURZENIN ON WARTA RIVER (CENTRAL POLAND)On the basis of test-pits (see section), the stratigraphy of the Cretaceous at Ligota near Burzenian on the Warta south-west from Łódź appears to be as follows:The M i d d l e a n d U p p e r AI b l a n is developed in the shape of sand deposits; in their top strata a horizon of phosphatic concretions appears. In these concentrations a fauna of Aucellina gryphaeoides·and Aucellina sp. has been found. The age of this horizon has been determined on the basis of a comparison with deposits of that same age on the northern periphery of the Święty Krzyż Mountains. The C e n o m a n i a n has been developed in the shape of clays laid down on top of the phosphatic concretions and of the marls· which cover them. In these marls the following fauna has been found: Acanthoceras hajoulense B a s s e, Acanthoceras sp., Actinocamax plenus (B l a i n v i l l e,· Inoceramus crippsi M a n t e l l, Inoceramus virgatus S c h l ü t e r,. Inoceramus bohemicus ·L e o n h a r d, and others. On top of the Cenomanian marls there appear the Turonian limestones; the determination of their age and their division, based on their fauna eon tent, we owe to W. C. Kowalski. In these limestones there appears, above the horizon containing Inoceramus labiatus, a bank with Inoceramus Lamarckii. Comparing with the Albian and Cenomanian of the northern periphery of the Święty Krzyż Mountains. Lithological and faunal differences have been observed here.Downloads
