Abstract

RESULTS OF GEOTECHNICAL INVESTIGATIONS OF LOESS BEETWEEN KAZIMIERZ DOLNY AND NAŁĘCZÓW (LUBLIN UPLAND)

Loess investigations of a both geological and engineering, character have been carried out, between Kazimierz Dolny and Nałęczów, as part of the program of geological technical studies to be undertaken in the Wisła valley for purposes of river regulation.

The results presented in this paper are based on a description and en examination of samples taken from 18 bore-holes, and from 2 natural outcrops. The localities of points of collecting these samples are shown on Fig. 1.

On the investigated area, loess forms the cover of older Quaternary deposits, such as boulder clays or sands. Locally loess lies directly upon Cretaceous deposits.

Here the stratigraphy of the loess has been investigated by A. Jahn (1950-1956) and W. Pożaryski (1953). According to these students, on this area the loess u distinctly bipartite. A section through Kwaskowa Góra, described by W. Pożaryski, and a section through the Łopatki brick yeard, described by A. Jahn, may be considered typical sections.
