Abstract

NOTES ON THE TECTONICS OF LWÓWEK ŚLĄSKI (LOWER SILESIA)The discussed area is situated in Góry Kaczawskie (Katzbachgebirge) in Lower Silesia, within the North-Sudetic Basin. The investigated region comprises parts of the following units of minor grade: the Lwówek basin, the Jerzmanowice basin and the Płakowice anticline (Fig. 1).The Płakowice anticline determines strikes and dips of the formations occurring in the Jerzmanowice and Lwówek basins. From southwest, this anticline is cut off by the Lwówek - Świerzawa fault, while northwards it dips underneath Cretaceous sediments. Along its tectonic boundary the Bunter sandstone contacts the Middle Turonian sandstone. The existence of tectonic elements distinguished by K. Beyer (1932) within the Bunter sandstone proved to be illusory, since both strike and dip of the Bunter . strata and the boundaries between Zechstein and the Radłówkowice beds and the Lwówek beds apply consequently to strike and dip of the Upper Cretaceous sediments too (Fig. 2).
