Abstract

SILICIFICATION OF CIESZYN LIMESTONES AT LESZNA GÓRNA NEAR CIESZYN (WESTERN CARPATHIANS)

The Cieszyn limestones (Infra-Valanginian), mined at Leszna Górna for the manufacture of Portland cement, are from the structural point of view rocks of a detrital character. In their ample calcite cement which has underwent recrystallization, there are embedded numerous limestone fragments, organic remnants, grains of detrital quartz, and isolated oolites. In the investigated limestones, chalcedony - quartz may be observed. The chalcedony usually saturates the limestone fragments and the organic remnants, but exceptionally the cement it is developed chiefly in a fibrous shape – less frequently in the form of fine-grained aggregates.
