Abstract
ON THE STRATIGRAPHICAL POSITION OF TH RÖTHIn connection with investigations on the sediments of the Lower and Middle Triassic there presented itself the problem of the stratigraphical position of the Röth. In the authors opinion the Röth should be assigned to the Middle Triassic, in view of the epicontinental character of its deposits, and not linked with the subcontinental sediments of the Bunter Sandstone (Table 1).According to the accepted division of the Lower Triassic we distinguish three parts: the Lower, Middle and Upper part of a Lower Triassic, vel the Röth. The Lower Bunter and the Middle Bunter Sandstone which latter the author recommends to consider the Upper Bunter Sandstone, are characterized by argillaceous-arenaceous sediments of variegated colour. On the area of Central and Northern Poland and of Germany there appear, within these sediments, numerous gypsum and anhydrite intercalations as well as laminae of dolomitic, oolitic limestones.Downloads
