W sprawie górnego dewonu okolic Nowej Wsi koło Srebrnej Góry
Abstract
NOTES ON THE UPPER DEVONIAN OF THE REGION OF NOWA WIEŚ, NEAR SREBRNA GÓRA (SUDETEN MOUNTAINS)The belief in the occurrence of Upper Devonian sediments in the region of Nowa Wieś in the Bardo Mountains (Sudeten) exists in literature since 1929. In this year E. Bederke published a paper reporting his discovery of Upper Devonian fauna along the road from Nowa Wieś to the Dzikowiec railway station. According to this report, the series containing organic material consists of calcareous conglomerates and greywackes with lenticles of compact light-grey limestone, the latter containing brachiopods in great numbers. On the basis of discovered and determined fossils E. Bederke considers the entire calcareous sediment (conglomerates and greywacke with limy lenticles) to be Upper Devonian. In 1956 I undertook a detailed investigation of the region which, in E. Bederke’s opinion, contains Upper Devonian sediments. The faunal material found there happened to be unsuitable for determination. In a slightly better condition proved to be the vegetal material from which I determined remnants of the seed ferns; Cardiopteris frondosa G ö p p., Neuropteris antiqua S t u r, and fossil moulds of scouring rush branches of Asterocalamites scrobiculatus (S c h l o t h.) Zeill. The determined flora convinces me that the entire rock complex should be assigned to the Lower, not the Upper Carboniferous sediments.Downloads
