Abstract

VARIABLENESS OF CONTENT OF CALCIUM AND MAGNESIUM IN CARBONATE ROCKS ON POLISH TERRITORY, EXCLUDING THE CARPATHIANS  (PRELIMINARY RAPORT)In this paper the authors dwell on the variableness of the proportion of Ca to Mg, determined in the carbonate rocks of Poland, excluding the Carpathians. For this investigation they utilized 8242 chemical analyses of samples of carbonate rocks, collected·all over the area of Poland (Table 1, Fig. 1). The distribution of carbonate rocks in Poland, on the area embraced, by the History of the Earth, is presented in Fig. 2.The authors conclude that:1) disregarding some oscillations, the quantity of Mg decreases in time, beginning from the Devonian up to the Tertiary (Figs. 3 and 4).2) beginning with the Devonian up to the Cretaceous the quantity of Ca decreases too, with a simultaneous increase of SiO2 and Al2O3;3) the comparison of the proportion of calcium to magnesium on Polish territory with this proportion on the Russian Platform and in North America. (Fig. 5) indicates; in general, analogous, character of changes. In particular, while for all these areas the curves show different courses, in time they all take an upward trend.
