Abstract

REMARKS ON STRUCTURE OF UPPER CRETACEOUS SEDIMENTS OF EASTERN P ART OF NORTHERN STUDETIC BASIN

In the literature hitherto published, the Upper Cretaceous row used to be mentioned to generally and, as a rule, no reasons were presented for the names given to the individual strata. In the present paper the author suggests for them a new nomenclature, justified by mioroscopic and chemical investigations.

In the Upper Cretaceous sediments of the Northern Sudetic Basin the author distinguishes clastic, argillaceous and chemical rocks.

In the clastic rocks he discerns quartz and marly sandstones. Among the quartz sandstones he distinguishes two types of rocks differing by provenance of material, degree of rounding, and age.

The sandstones of the first type (Plate I, Fig. 2) show angular grains. The quartzes disclose uniform extinction of light. being derived from the disintegration of rocks tectonically not engaged (granites, sandstones); they occur in the Cenomanian, Coniacian and Santonian.
