Abstract

ON SOME PROBLEMS OF QUATERNARY PALAEOBOTANY AND STRATIGRAPHY IN POLANDThis paper bears closely upon recent works done by Prof. S. Z. Różycki (1961a, b) dealing with the so-called "Great Interglacial" and with the age of preglacial deposits found in a profile from the Ochota suburb of Warsaw. The results of these investigations, reported in both papers mentioned are mainly based on palynological analyses made by various authors; commenting on these results is the principal object of the present paper. The author concentrates his most diligent attention on the problem of rebedet pollen. He reflects critically upon the bottom sections of the pollen diagrams of the Interglacial deposits from Nowiny Żukowskie (J. Dyakowska, 1952), from Ciechanki Krzesimowskie (M. Brem, 1953) and from Gościęcin (A. Środoń, 1957). In all these instances the pollen of thermophile trees, found in the bottom sections of the diagrams underneath the birch phase, were assumed to be redeposited. Moreover, many other examples are cited of Interglacial and Late-glacial profiles contaminated by alien pollen, and indicate sources from which these contaminations may have resulted.
