Abstract
INTERRELATION BETWEEN MINERALIZATION OF TERTIARY WATERS AND STRUCTURE OF THE SOUTHWESTERN PART OF THE UPPER SILESIAN COAL BASINThe author discusses the influence exerted by the structural development of the discussed region and by the degree of its tectonic history upon mineralization and chemical composition of its Tertiary waters, observed in the southwestern part of the Upper Silesian Coal Basin. The area under discussion is situated in a section of this basin which has undergone powerful disturbances by folding and disjoining tectonics. Here, marine Tertiary sediments were laid down directly on a strongly eroded surface of the Productive Carboniferous. The Tortonian basin of sedimentation gradually developed due to tectonic movements that led to horst structures and to depressions. Gradually the Subsiding tectonic movements passed on, northwards ·from the forefield of the Carpathians. Due to these movements there developed a number of areas of depression type where, however, the effect of erosion was much in evidence.Downloads
