Abstract

SEDIMENTOLOGICAL PROBLEMS OF THE FLYSCH DEPOSITS OF THE PIENINY KLIPPEN BELT OF POLAND

In the Pieniny Klippen Belt of Poland the flysch deposits of the Aalenian, Senonian, and Palaeogene ages have been found. The flysch deposits of the Aalenian (Flysch Aalenian) are up to 200 m thick. It is believed· that the clastic material of the Flysch Aalenian derived from the Upper Carboniferous deposits which emerged in connection with the Mid-Cimmerian synorogenic movements on so-called Central Cordilliera, withm the basin of the Klippen Series.

For the second time the flysch deposits appeared, in the Pieniny Klippen Belt of Poland, at the Lower Senionan time. This is a pre-orogenic flysch represented by the Sromowce Beds, some 100 m thick. The source area of the flysch deposits was situated south of the basin of the Klippen Series.
