Abstract

SALT-BEARING FORMATIONS IN THE BORE-HOLE POGÓRSKA WOLA NEAR TARNÓWProspecting works carried out by oil industry in the Carpathian foreland contributed to the discovery of new deposits; or new sites of rock-salt occurrences. At Pogórska Wola, near Tarnów, at the depth from 1646;5 to 1820,0 m, deposits of the lower Tortonian salt-bearing formation occur developed as anhydrites and gypsums with rock-salt interlayerings. Overlying them are upper Tortonian and Sarmatian deposits. The entire Miocene series, including the Sarmatian one, is tectonically strongly disturbed. The deformations are connected with a supplementary folding of the Flysch Carpathians. The occurrence of the salt-bearing formations, east of Tarnów, in an analogous position to the margin of the Carpathians, as well as of the known deposits at Wieliczka and Bochnia, indicates that in the near-Carpathian zone of the Miocene formations may be looked for rock salt deposits, in the area east of Bochnia. The folding of the Sarmatian sediments at Pogórska Wola is a proof of younger orogenic movements that have taken place at the upper Sarmatian time.Furthermore, the presence of folding structures in the Miocene formations, in front of the Carpathians enables to search for natural gas deposits in this zone.
