Abstract

INFLUENCE OF FISSURING UPON PERMEABILITY OF THE SZAFLARY BEDS

Summary

The paper presents the results of studies on fissure permeability of the lower part of the Zakopane beds in the Podhale region (Internal Carpathians). Permeability has been determined on the basis of microfissurity measurements on drill cores and by means of water absorption in a bore hole under the pressure of 2, 5 and 7 atm. The microfissurity has been measured by means of the methods elaborated in WNIGRI. On the basis of the results obtained during examinations of microfissurity the mean permeability amounts to 3,4 md. Maxima of permeability correspond with the zones of breccias occurrence and of slickensides. The mean permeability computed on the basis of the study on water absorption under the pressure of 2 atm. amounts to 11,0 md. The results obtained on microfissurity measurements, and on water absorption examinations under the pressure of 2 atm. are convergent. On the other hand, the permeability under the pressure of 5 atm. is considerably greater than that calculated from microfissurity. This fact may be interpreted by means of hydraulic splitting. The greatest permeability has been found in an area stretching NW-SE, i.e. in direction similar to that of the fissures of the system I. This system characterized by a direction amounting to 325° reveal its mean density of fissures being 27 1/m.
