Abstract

OUTLINE OF PALAEOZOIC AND MESOZOIC TECTONICS OF THE POLISH LOWLAND

Caledonia cover (C a m b r i a n - S i l u r i a n) in the area of the East European Platform in Poland. In the internal zone of platform the Lower Palaeozoic deposits fill up depressions of syneclise type.

At the time of the Cambrian-Silurian sedimentation there existed continuous movements which lowered the marginal zone of platform on a much larger scale than the internal one. After that the young Caledonian synorogeny of the Ardennian phase took place. Large and flat syncline-like structural forms, which originated in consequence of this activity, are characteristic of axial directions approximate to that of the parallel, and disclosing a slight WSW-ENE deviation.

In the marginal zone of the Lublin synclinorium, seismic works show the excellence of a lower and more strongly folded tectonic stage than the Variscian stage.
