Abstract

DETERMINATION OF STRONTIUM IN ROCKS AND MINERALS BY X-RAY SPECTROMETRYSummaryAs compared with other physical and chemical methods, the X-ray fluorescence analysis is more rapid and as concerns accuracy, rarely gives way before them. Thus, it allows to determine chemical elements that occur in a very wide range of concentration, and does not cause destruction of samples that can be of avail in other researches. This is particularly important in elaboration of drill cores, of unique mineralogic specimens, and others. The article presents the results of determination of strontium in powder samples (Table 1), which have been obtained by means of various methods of X-ray spectral analysis. It has also been ascertained using this method that Sr detecting edge ranges from 0,003 to 0,005 percent. Grinding degree of samples is of considerable importance for the results of the analyses, and samples insufficiently grinded, characterized by various grain size, give decreased results of small preciseness. Moreover, the results depend also upon the compression degree of samples. The researches were made using fluorescence X-ray spectrometer produced by the firm Rigaku Denki Co., Ltd.
