Abstract

COMPARISON OF FRACTURE DIAGRAMS BY MEANS OF STATISTICAL METHODSSummaryRoses of fractures can be considered as empirical statistic distributions characterizing the arrangement of the fractures in the rock massif. To compare such distributions Person's χ2 test and Smirnov-Kolmogorow's test D have been applied. A comparison made by means of the tests allows us to judge objectively of similarity or differentiation of the diagrams under consideration. The aplication of both tests is shown using the roses of fractures of the Tertiary clays (Fig. 2) that overlie the sulphur deposit, those of fractures of organodetrital limestones of Sarmatian age (Fig. 3), and by means of diagrams of fractures of Poznańskie days observed at the exposures, or obtained during three-axial shearing (Fig. 4). It has been ascertained that the differences between the diagrams shown in Fig. 2 and Fig. 3 are of insignificant nature, whereas those observed in diagrams in Fig. 4 are essential. Any analysis of the reasons of this differentiation of the diagrams transcends the possibilities of statistical methods, however.
