Abstract

MEAN SEISMIC VELOCITIES OF THE MESOZOIC AND OLDER PALAEOZOIC DEPOSITS IN THE LUBLIN REGION, BORE HOLE DYLESummaryThe author analyses the results of the measurements of seismic velocities made in bore hole Dyle. The geological series pierced by the bore hole consist of Miocene, Cretaceous, Jurassic, Ordovician and Cambrian deposits. Mean, interval and complex velocities, as well as their errors have been calculated. Both the Cainozoic and Mesozoic deposits are characterized by fairly systematic increase in velocity, depending upon the depth and the lithostratigraphic complexes. The Older Palaeozoic formations are distinguished by a different, more changing cycle of velocity variation. Based on the results of the measurements made in bore hole Dyle, the author stresses the differences that exist between the estimative velocities (according to various preliminary assumptions) and the observed velocities that, in consequence, restrict the exactness of the structural seismic maps elaborated on the basis of approximate velocities.
