Verba volant, scripta manent
Abstract
VERBA VOLANT, SCRIPTA MANENTSummaryOn the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Geological Institute and of the edition of the 50th volume of “Kwartalnik Geologiczny”, the present author discusses the significance of this periodical and emphasizes the necessity of protecting the scientifical works that the longer wait for printing, the more are exposed to destruction, or can be out of date, apart from the fact that they do not appear at all. This problem is exemplified by a series of too facts observed to occur in Polish geology, and supported by the causes and effects of such a disadvantageous phenomenon. Remedial steps, which can be helpful here, are presented, and the role played, in this situation, by “Kwartalnik Geologiczny”, is stressed. By the way, the problem of destruction of collections is elucidated, and certain examples of this problem, observed in Poland, are given.Downloads
