Abstract
GEOLOGICAL POSITION OF THE FOSSIL BONE REMAINS OF ELEPHAS ANTIQUUS FALC. ET COUT. IN WARSAWIn one of the sewerage ditches in Warsaw, Leszno Street, bone fossils were encountered at a depth of about 4,5m. According to the determination made by K. Krysiak (1962) ,these are remains of Elephas antiquus F a l c o n e r et C o u t I e y.As a result of the collaboration of the Office for City Conservation in Warsaw, which was the first to take interest in this finding, with the Earth’s Museum and with the Geological Institute, a work was begun to elaborate the fossils under consideration. In the Earth's Museum, K. Jakubowski gathered and secured all the bones encountered and began to examine them. In this paper the results are presented of profiling the diggings, made in the framework of the study carried on by the Geological Institute. If possible, also position of the locality was determined, in relation to more general materials, as well.Downloads
