Abstract

NEW UPPER DEVONIANFAUNA IN THE VICINITIES OF CRACOWA description is given of the fauna collected from the deposits pierced by bore hole Karniowice 3, situated in southern Poland, approximately 6,5 km north-west of Zabierzów, near Cracow. The bore hole was deepened down to a depth of 212,0 m. It was stated that here the PaIaeozoic carbonate rocks occur under the Quaternary, Cretaceous and Jurassic deposits, 72,5 m in thickness. The rocks under study yield macrofauna occurring at the depths 73,2-163,0 m and 2010,4-201,7 m. The fauna consists only of brachiopods and of crinoid fragments, of which 680 specimens have been collected. To the most abundant belong spirifers (535 specimens), however, only 85 of them are determinable. The remainder is found in the form of fragments which may belong either to the species here determined or to those which halve not been identified.
