Abstract
OUTLINE OF GEOLOGICAL STRUCTURE OF THE LVOV-VOLHYNIA COAL BASINThe paper presents both age and character of deposits that build up the area of the basin considered. Here are found deposits of Riphean, Vendian, Cambrian, Ordovician, Silurian, Devonian, Carboniferous, Jurassic, Cretaceous, Neogene and Quarternary rage (Table 1).Coal occurs in all Carboniferous series, except for Tournaisian, i.e. in the Visean, Namurian and Bashkirian (Westphailian). The productive series consists of siltstones, caystones, and sandstones, intercalated with thin beds of fine-clastic conglomerates, with thin layers or banks of limestones and with coal seams. The basin is strongly tectonically disturbed by single faults, or by a series of faults. On the basis of rich materials, the present author has elaborated classification of these faults giving also their importance for prospections (Table 2).Downloads
