Abstract

GEOCHEMICAL DESCRIPTION OF BITUMEN SUBSTANCE IN THE ZECHSTEIN COPPER SHALESSummaryThe article discusses the results of physico-chemical analyses, on the basis of which a geochemical description of organic substance, herein also bitumen substance, has been made. The following are examinations made during the study: quantitative and qualitative determinations of bitumens, spectrophotometric analyses within the whole range of spectrum, and carbon determinations. Moreover, there are examined interrelations between the trace elements and organic substance, too. It has been ascertained on the results obtained that the bitumens, found to occur in clay-bituminous shales of the Zechstein copper-bearing formation in the Lubin copper basin, disclose a considerable metamorphic degree, and are syngenetical. To crude oil, these shales are mother or potentially mother rocks here. The results of the research demonstrate that the organic substance has, most probably, been a sorbent to metallic chemical elements
