Abstract
SALT INCRUSTATION IN THE MINE POLKOWICESummaryFormation of salt incrustation on side walls and at the top of the horizontal mine working in the mine Polkowice is related to the specific hydrogeological conditions within the deposit. These conditions are characterized by a relatively low water inflow in the mine workings, observed mainly in the form of humid spots and condensations, and by a high mineralization of ground water that flows into the workings. According to the classification of O. A. Alekin (1953) this water belongs to chloride-natrium waters with an admixture of Ca2+ and SO2-4 ions. Salt incrustations accompany all lithological members exposed in the mine workings, i.e. sandstones of Rotliegendes, copper-bearing shales of Zechstein, as well as limestones and dolomites. They occur always within humid zones, and are formed as a result of precipitation of salt from saturated solutions produced under the conditions of microclimate within the workings. Two kinds of salt incrustations have been distinguished: soft, built mainly of halite, and hard - mainly gypseous. The formations make various morphological forms, according to their structural and lithological properties of bedrock on which they are produced, to the intensity of water inflow, and to their chemical composition, i.e. salt hoar, vesicle-like incrustations, streamlet-like incrustations, crusts and stalactites.Downloads
