Abstract
CHEMICAL NATURE OF PORE SOLUTIONS IN CLAY SOILS OF VARIOUS GENESIS
Summary
The article discusses the preliminary results of the research carried on the determine chemical composition of pore waters pressed out of 15 samples taken from the Quaternary and Tertiary clay' soils, using high pressure technique.
Comparing chemical composition of pore waters obtained from soils of various genesis the author distinguishes four main types of water: sulphate-magnesium water (samples Nos 13–15), hydrocarbonate-calcium water (samples Nos 1, 7, 10, 11, and 12), sulphate-calcium water (samples Nos 5, 6, 8 and 9), and hydrocarbonate-chloride-calcium water (samples Nos 2, 3, 4 and 4a).
The research has demonstrated that the engineering-geological properties of soils (compactness, cohesion, internal friction angle, swelling, a.o.) are influenced not (only by such factors as·granulometric composition of soils, porosity, humidity, mineral-composition of day fraction or exchange complex, but, to visible extent, also by chemical composition and concentration of pore solutions.
