Abstract

NOMOGRAM FOR DE'TERMININGAND CALCULATING BOTH ACTUAL AND APPARENT DIP ANGLES AND FOR DETERMINING STRIKE ANGLES OF BEDSSummaryThe article presents a new type of monogram useful making graphical constructions on geological maps. It allows us to execute the following types of constructions: determination of aparent dip angles (Fig. 3); determination of actual dip angle on the basis of one (Figs. 4a and 4b) and two (Figs. 5 and 5b) geological sections; determination of both azimuth and dip angle of a fold axis by measuring strikes and dips on both fold limbs and determination of crossing edge of two planes by measuring the courses and dips of these planes (Figs. 6a and 6b). The sought angles are obtained in numerical values and, at the same time, as moduli for dip values. The values obtained in the form of the moduli considerably accelerate the cartographical works carried on maps.
