Abstract

FLORISTIC DESCRIPTION OF THE PORĘBA BEDS (NAMURIAN A) IN THE VICINITY OF KATOWICE AND CHORZÓW

Summary

The flora remains of the Poręba Beds in the vicinity of Katowice and Chorzów are rather badly preserved. The plant remains are frequently found along with fresh-water and marine fauna proving that the flora is typically allochthonous, laid down in a shallow marine or lacustrine environment. The floristic material examined is represented by 42 species and 20 genera. To the most important belong here pteridophyte plants of 27 species. Among them the following taxons are worthy of being emphasized: Sphenopteris adiantoides, Lyginopteris stangeri, L. larischi, Mariopteris laciniata, Diplothmema patentissimum, Rhodea tenuis, Alethopteris parva, Neuropteris bohdanowiczi and N. dluhoschi. Among other plant groups should be mentioned here species of the class Equisetinae, i.e. Mesocalamites and Sphenophyllum tenerrimum, which is frequently found in the floristic material under consideration. The analysis of the distribution of these flora remains in the Paręba Beds of the area in study points to certain regularity in their occurrence. A continuous horizon of the flora can be observed above the seam 610, and a lesser visible horizon beneath the seam 621.
