Abstract

PRELIMINARY RESULTS OF GEOCHEMICAL OF THE LOWER ORDOVICIAN IN THE PODLASIE DEPRESSIONSummaryThe paper presents the results of geochemical research of the formations of the Krzyżany and Białowieża Beds within the Podlasie depression area. The research has been based on the interpretation of the content of U, V and Mo in the individual types and lithological varieties of rocks. The geochemical research has demonstrated that the individual lithological rock varieties of Lower Ordovician age are characterized by a differentiation in the uranium, vanadium and molybdenum concentrations:1. In the Upper Obolus sandstones Lower Ttremadocian) the geochemical background of the chemical elements examined amounts to: 5,09 x 10-4 % U, and < 120 x 10-4% V and 12,8 x 10-4% Mo.2. The shales under examination (Dictyonema shales – Lower Tremadocian, and Bryograptus shales – Upper Tremadocian) distinguish themselves by a high geochemical background of uranium, amounting to 52,1 x 10-4% U. The highest geochemical background of uranium characteristic of the phosphatized shale samples 79,5 x 1,0-4 %, and of the black shales 66,1 x 10-4% U. The shales are also characterized by a high geochemical background of vanadium, amounting to 495 x 10-4% V. The highest geochemical background of vanadium is found in the samples of black shales 1282 x 10-4% V. The geochemical background of molybdenum in shales amounts to 15,6 x 10-4 % Mo. The highest geochemical background is characteristic of the samples of phosphatized shales 22,4 x 10-4 % Mo.3. In glauconite (Arenigian) the geochemical background of uranium amounts to 5,11 x 10-4 % U, that of vanadium – 190 x 10-4% V, and that of mlolybdenum – 8,12 x 10-4% Mo.4. In dolomites and glauconite limestones (Arenigian) the geochemical background of U, V and Mo amounts to 3,98 x 10-4 % U, < 120 x 10-4% V, and 2,94 x 10-4% Mo, respectively.
