Abstract

CORRELATION OF SEISMIC AND GRAVIMETRIC RESULTS TAKEN PROM INTENSIVE STUDIES CONDUCTED IN THE AREA OF LUBLIN VICINITYSummaryCovering the area of Lublin vicinity with semi-detailed gravimetric pictures and then correlating the results of each measurement in a uniform map of anomalies of gravity in Bouguer's reduction and residual anomalies as well as performing the seismic operations on large scale providing the grounds for constructing the Mesozoic and Palaeozoic structural schemes made possible to correlate the yielded results. The correlation has been made in order to state whether the interpretation of gravimetric picture being simultaneously carried out together with the interpretation of seismic materials may have delivered the new geological data. The results of the correlation can be shown on correlation scheme (Fig. 2) showing the axes of more significant structures determined on the basis of the structural scheme of the seismic Carboniferous horizon, moreover, the correlation scheme may indicate the faults lying within this horizon and in the crystalline basement owing to insertion of residual gravimetric anomalies showing the amplitude approaching the value of 0.5 mgl. The calculations of gravimetric effects resulted from different structures and faults as well as the amplitude have been also estimated basing upon the results of seismic examinations. In addition to that, the analysis of the density of sedimentary deposits have been carried out when basing upon the results of each measurement of this size made on 68 separate bore-holes. As a result of this analysis the scheme of distribution of mean thicknesses of the Carboniferous and Devonian formations (Fig. 1) has been prepared, and futhermore, the boundaries of density contrasts depended on localization of the picture (Table 1) have been fixed. After analyzing the correlation results one may determine dependently on localization the proportion of each geologic formation during the period of shaping the local gravimetric field. The analysis carried out this way may prove that the interpretation of the existing picture showing local anomalies can be conducted only together with the analysis of the results of seismic examinations supplying direct information on geological structure of the area prospected. However, the correlation of the results of seismic and gravimetric examinations is not able to provide much new information completing seismic data on the structure of sedimentary cover extending across the area of Lublin vicinity.
