Abstract
VARIATIONS OF THE SULPHUR CONTENTS IN ORE SAMPLES DUE TO WEATHERINGSummaryIn drilling samples of sulphur-bearing limestones stored during the period of 6–12 months the loss of sulphur (ΔS) proportional to the initial sulphur content (S1) has been recognized. The interdependence between ΔS and S1 is described by regression equations: ΔS = 8.42–0.45 S1 for samples collected after about 6 months and ΔS = 6.89–0.47 S1 for samples collected after about 12 months. The loss of sulphur is accompanied by the increase of the sulphates content. The changes of the chemical composition of the ore are due to weathering. Ore weathering may be the source of systematical errors in core evaluation if the cores were stored during a protracted period prior to sampling.Downloads
