Abstract

COLUMNAR JOINTING OF SANDSTONE XENOLITHS IN BASALT OF REGION OF WLEŃ

The subject of this paper is the description of an interesting phenomenon observed by·the author in a small basalt quarry west of Wleń (Góry Kaczawskie, Lower Silesia), Fig. 1.

Intruded into nepheline basalt is a great number of xenoliths of Cretaceous sandstone, the "Quadersandstein"; in the shape of small and large fragments reaching at times a diameter of over 2 meters; they may be considered to be epixenoliths (Fig. 2).
