Abstract

METAMORPHIC BASEMENT OF DEVONIAN AT GOŚCINO NEAR KOŁOBRZEG, WEST POMERANIA

Summary

In a bore hole Gościno IG-1 phyllites were found to occur under marly mudstones at a depth of 4415 m. These are metamorphic formations encountered for the first time in the West Pomerania area. Laminae of the rocks here. Considered consist of alternating metaquartzite (Table I, Fig. 1), quartz phyllite (Table I, Fig. 2) and Porophyllitic phyllite (Table I, Fig. 3). Mineral composition of the phyllites is as follows:
– main minerals: quartz, calcite, potash feldspar, plagioclase, pyrophyllite, muscovite and biotite;
– secondary minerals: opaque «iron and biotite);
– accessory minerals: zircon, tourmaline, leucoxene, monacite, epidote, apatite and green hornblende.
The phyllites in study are thought by the present author to be of Lower Palaeozoic (Silurian?) age.
