ON THE EIFELIAN TENTACULITES FROM THE ŚWIĘTOKRZYSKIE MTS. AND THE CRACOW-CZĘSTOCHOWA UPLAND

Summary

In Poland, tentaculoides occur in the Lower, Middle and Upper Devonian deposits. At places, they are found in quantities. Because of their great biostratigraphical value, they have been an object of palaeontological studies.
The Eifelian Tentaculites (Fig. 1) from the Świętokrzyskie Mountains (Brzeziny, Zbrza) and from the Cracow-Częstochowa Upland (Brudzowice, Słomniki) were elaborated in 1965 structure of Tentaculites was examined on polished rock surfaces, in which shells were treated with hydrochloric acid. Latex casts were made of imprints. At Brzeziny and Zbrza both Tentaculites schlotheimi K o k e n (Tables IV-V) and Tentaculites subconicus G e i n i t z (Table V) are found to occur in limestones and marls of the Dąbrowa horizon (Lower Eifelian) that also contains various brachiopods, trilobites and ostracods. At Brudzowice, marly and dolomitic limestones contain Tentaculites schlotheimi K o k e n (Table III). At Słomniki, Tentaculites schlotheimi K o k e n, Tentaculites sp. and Heteroctenus mosolovicus L j a s c h. occur in pelitic limestones and in marls (Tables II–V).
Tentaculites described in this paper have proved the Lower Eifelian age of the deposits considered.
