OCCURRENCE OF FLUORITE IN THE LOWER ZECHSTEIN CARBONATE ROCKS OF THE FORE-SUDETIC MONOCLINE

Summary

Fluorite has been found to occur in the Lower Zechstein carbonate rocks (cyclothem Z1) of the Fore-Sudetic monocline in the region of Lubin and Polkowice (Lower Silesia).
The mineral fills in small fissures and stylolite structures or it makes irregular veinlets and nests. It occurs in a paragenesis with baryte, gypsum, calcite, at places also with copper and lead sulphides (Tables I and II, Figs. 4, 5, 6, 7). The fluorite found also in the microcrystalline rock mass as a fairly common accessary component along the whole section of the carbonate rocks (Figs. 1, 2, 3, and Table III, Figs. 8, 9).
Both spectral and X-ray analyses have been made of trace elements to characterize the fluorite more in detail (Tables 1 and 2).
A lack of any relations between the fluorite occurrence and tectonic discontinuity zone, and the character and occurrence mode of this mineral prove its sedimentary origin. Small vein-like forms and infillings of stylolites fissures are, most probably, related to the secondary activity and the displacement of fluorite during the later stages of diagenetic processes.
